How To Tell A Good Mobile RPG From A Grind Trap
Mobile RPGs are a minefield. For every one that respects your time, there are five built to nag you into playing on a schedule that isn't yours. Over years of reviewing them, I've picked up a few tells that separate the keepers from the traps.
First, look at how respecs work. A good RPG lets you experiment with builds cheaply. If changing your skills costs a fortune or a premium currency, the game wants you locked into one path so it can sell you the fix. Cheap respecs signal a developer that trusts your curiosity.
Second, watch the energy systems. A hard cap that stops you playing after fifteen minutes is a red flag. The best games either skip energy entirely or make it so generous you never notice it. Your play session should end when you decide, not when a meter runs dry.
Third, play to about hour ten before judging. The opening hour of almost any RPG is polished to hook you. The real character shows later, when the systems open up and the pacing either holds or collapses into a wall of grinding. That's the moment I trust.
